The challenge

Together Platform sells mentoring software to HR and learning and development teams. Tevera sells software that helps universities run field placements for counseling and social work students. Both needed content that ranked, answered their buyers' real questions, and held up with expert readers.

My approach

  1. Learned the buyer before the topic. For Together, that meant HR leaders building mentoring, leadership and inclusion programs. For Tevera, program directors choosing technology, plus the students and graduates they serve.
  2. Wrote for search and for people. Each piece was researched around what the audience needed and optimized for search.
  3. Made it practical. How-to guides, step-by-step plans and real company examples readers could act on, not opinion pieces.
  4. Built topic clusters, not one-offs. Together's articles connected around mentoring, leadership development and inclusion, so each piece strengthened the others.

“Meryl has been an asset to our writing team. She’s made it easy for our team to scale our content production because she’s punctual with a high level of communication. Her writing requires very little editing and I trust that, whenever I send her an outline, she’ll send back something our readers will love.”

— Ryan Carruthers, Content Marketing Manager, Together Software

“Meryl is hands-down the best writer I’ve worked with. She’s prompt, communicative, and nails my clients’ voices every time. If you’re looking for a top-notch writer who will always perform and is a joy to work with, look no further.”

— Maddie Michaud, Founder, Blue Spec Marketing

What carried over

Writing for new industries sharpened the skill I use every day in cloud communications: defining concepts, benefits and functionality clearly enough that end users can comfortably do their jobs. Both clients kept me on as a repeat contributor for about a year, and Together kept working with me after its content manager changed.
