AI visits: Sep 2024–Oct 2026, GA4. Monthly growth: Oct 2024 → Sep 2025. AI Overviews: Global Call Forwarding, Mar 2026, Ahrefs.

The challenge

Our buyers, IT leaders, voice engineers and global operations teams, increasingly start research by asking ChatGPT or reading a Google AI Overview instead of clicking through search results. Rankings alone no longer measured whether we were visible. In 2024, ChatGPT sent about 450 visits to Global Call Forwarding and 90 to United World Telecom.

The goal was to make both brands the answer AI tools give when buyers ask about international phone numbers, toll-free services and connecting global numbers to their existing phone systems.

My approach

  1. Strengthened entity signals. Tied each brand clearly to the services buyers ask about: international toll-free numbers, virtual phone numbers and SIP/BYOC.
  2. Wrote answers, not just articles. Question-based content, FAQ structures and structured-data recommendations that AI tools can quote directly.
  3. Built clusters around real integrations. Content on Amazon Connect BYOC, Webex Calling, Microsoft Teams Direct Routing, Genesys and Twilio, matching how enterprise buyers search.
  4. Refreshed service pages for both audiences. Updated core pages to work for traditional search and AI-generated answers at once.
  5. Kept facts accurate and specific. Clear company facts, differentiated value propositions and real customer use cases, so AI tools describe the brands correctly.
  6. Matched each page to its AI channel. Tightened pricing and signup pages for ChatGPT and Perplexity referrals, and educational content for Google’s AI Overviews.
  7. Trained the team. Wrote internal guidelines on AEO, GEO, E-E-A-T and entity signals, and trained our writers to apply them to new and refreshed pages.
  8. Measured AI as its own channel. Built reports that track AI-referred visits separately in GA4, alongside AI Overview appearances in Ahrefs.

What I made

Before and after

Pages rebuilt to be quoted

CallMeClick service page before and after the refresh

Service page · Global Call Forwarding

CallMeClick

The old page opened with general advice about websites and never said plainly what the product is. The refresh starts with a one-sentence definition under "What is CallMeClick?", then a three-step process, benefits for customers and for businesses, and use cases by industry. That is the structure AI answers pull from.

Country page · Global Call Forwarding

Argentina virtual phone numbers

Country pages got the same treatment: a trivia-style opening replaced with a clear case for the market, cleaner number-type and format sections, and new answers to questions buyers ask, such as how long activation takes.

“AI tools recommend the brands they already trust on a topic. Copying whoever ranks first doesn’t get you there; topical authority, clear entity signals and depth do.”

Reflection

The biggest surprise was that each AI channel cited a different part of the funnel. ChatGPT and Perplexity sent buyers straight to our pricing page, while Google’s AI Overviews cited our educational content, so we adjusted each type of page for the job it was doing. What didn’t work was matching a competitor that kept outranking us in ChatGPT; their edge looked like stronger entity signals and third-party links, not better pages. We’re now actively building more third-party mentions and links.
